Bridges
A bridge is fixed into the mouth by a special adhesive/cement. It cannot be removed for cleaning, but it does need cleaning underneath with special floss called super floss at least once a day. If looked after well a bridge can last for many years.
It is made by putting anchor teeth-crowns on the teeth either side of the space, and then joining these two anchor teeth together by putting a dummy tooth in the space. The anchor teeth are prepared in the same way as a crown. Bridges are usually made of porcelain that is bonded to a precious metal base. Alternatively, they can be made entirely of a special type of very strong porcelain. At Clareville Dental Surgery we use master technicians to make our bridges in their dental laboratories.
