Dental Hygienist
Plaque is the film of bacteria that forms on the tooth surface of the teeth and gums every day. It appears like a white/woolly substance on the gum line and teeth. It is soft and can easily and gently be removed with brushing. Gum disease is caused by the bacteria in plaque. If it is not removed, it calcifies (becomes hard and discolours) over time. Normal brushing will not remove this hard layer on the tooth surface, and as a result the gums will become red and puffy. To prevent and treat gum disease, you need to make sure you remove all plaque from your teeth daily. This is done by effective brushing, and using dental floss for in between the teeth.
Our Dental Hygienist will be able to clean your teeth professionally using ultrasonic scalers to clean your teeth, which will remove both hard and soft deposits, as well as any stains.
The Dental Hygienist can help you to fully assess and monitor your home care techniques, and prescribe advanced products to help you maintain healthy gums and teeth. We actively promote that most people will benefit from a 6 monthly Dental Hygienist visit. Visiting our Dental Hygienist should be viewed as an investment in the future of your general oral health.
